Vecchio's Builds My Colnago

This video recounts Peter's last bike build at Vecchio's in Boulder, Colorado. Vecchio's was Peter's dream of a bike shop that centered on expert specialty service. Peter arrived in Boulder in the early 90's at the Morgul Bismark where he quickly became the service manager. I had been lusting after a Colnago Master for years, and finally decided to pull the trigger while a steel Colnago was still available. The purchase of the Colnago and Campagnolo Athena group set happily just preceded Peter's retirement and the passing of the torch to Jim Potter. I count myself lucky to call Peter a friend and I'm delighted that Peter's last bike build at Vecchio's was my beautiful Campagnolo equipped Colnago Master

Beautiful bike!! Only way it could be better is to hang a 8speed Campy C Record Delta group with down tube shifters on it! But I love it! 👍

Here's an update on my dream bike built up by Vecchios in Boulder Colorado last year. Well I've been putting the bike through a full cycling season such as Elephant Rock Century, Golden Gran Fondo, and numerous Colorado training rides in prep for "The Triple Bypass Cycling Challenge" and "Mt. Evans Hillclimb" . The Colnago Master is a great platform for climbing and is absolutely rock solid in the descent along with railing its way through corners. Plus the bike looks good and garnered numerous positive comments on the Golden Gran Fondo. The Campagnolo Athena derailleurs both front and rear perform as expected. The Campy record hubs are like silk. The Athena crankset is beautiful. The only complaint is with the Campy Athena shifters. The front shifter lacked the oomph to positively shift down to the 2nd chain ring. I wound up having to overshift down to the little chain ring and then shift up to the middle chain ring. I was told by several Campy aficionados that this was a known problem. Plus the front shifter only has 3 clicks, so the front shifter lacks the trim necessary to get the front deraileur out of the way of the chain when in the largest rear cog and the smallest chain ring. So there's chain rub which is pretty infuriating on a steep long climb. To be honest I don't know if its the shifter design, or if I got a set of defective shifters, or a set of shifters not meant for the Athena Triple. Being right up against the Triple Bypass on July 12th I talked to my Boulder Campy experts and based on their advice I removed the set of Athena shifters, and had Vecchios install a set of 06 Campy Record Shifters. I had to step down to a 10 cog set in the rear and had to get a new chain but other than that life became good. I was able to ride the Golden Gran Fondo with no issues, and should now be in good shape for the Triple Bypass. Well at least the bike is in good shape, I'm not so sure about the motive power unit(still fighting respiratory issues)
