They're building my 2017 FX 3 right now at the Trek dealer. I ordered it in Viper Red, looks great online and even better in person. It's essentially the replacement for the 7.4 FX which trek is obligated to continue selling due to immense overstock/slow sales. They learned their mistake and are offering the FX 3 in Red, Black and White for 2017.

This video definitely helped inspire me to buy a 7.4. I actually bought the same one as you....orange ("firebrand") I've only had the bike a few days, but I love it so far. And I gotta say, I love the orange color. It's so bright! Thanks for this video. I watched it more than a few times as I was trying to decide what bike I wanted to buy.

DJKenny - Thanks for the comments, I would say one of the strong points of this bike is the brakes, however there is something to be said about disc, disc in most cases, if the cost isn't bumped up too much is always great. The fork on this bike is very good in combination w the tires a great ride, Good luck with your choice in the future, Components are the difference, cost can be an issue, Mike

Thanks Gator Greg for your comments, checked out your video nice bike, I have bought several bikes over the last couple years and color always seems like something you have to settle for as opposed to choose from.... the Marlin Series is very good I read something a year or so ago about the five being a best buy and of course any move up in the series is an improvement.... Thanks again, ride safe, MIke

Nice bike! I just got the same firebrand color on my Marlin 6 - video here: https://youtu.be/QSNbkfyx_3k

Just a short update - I am not getting any sponsorship from trek and am not trying to sell their product, I like the bike I bought a lot, color included, and it is a great ride, I did this video hopefully for those of you thinking about buying one, as when I was looking there was very little on the tube....I realize it could have been done a little better, but I was on the fly with comments, and just learning the bike.... I just wanted to say that this is a great bike and you will not be disappointed if you get one, I have had a lot of favorable comments and many more visits than ever expected...so I know there is a lot of interest in the bike...for those of you who visit Thank You... Mike

The Orange and White colors for the 2016 7.4 fx are SOOOOO UGLY!!!!! I can't even test ride these bikes because NONE of my local Trek dealers stock them due ONLY to the offensive, outdated, tacky colors this year. He laughed and said there's literally 100's of Orange and White 7.4s stacked up in the warehouse ready for shipping. He said they're the most "unpopular colors to date" and that he sells more 7.3 fx's based only on appearance/color. TREK, YOU ARE LOSING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS BY NOT OFFERING THIS BIKE IN NORMAL COLORS. NOBODY AROUND HERE WANTS ORANGE OR WHITE. FIRE WHOEVER COMES UP WITH YOUR FRAME COLOR CHOICES AND GET WITH THE TIMES.

NICE! Just picked up the white Trek FX 7.4 today...

I am debating between the disc and the carbon fork model. I want a fast commute bike, that I can take on fun longer rides as well. I also like the idea of a disc brake for the wet rides to work and back. But the feel of the fork is something of interest. Nice bike.

Hi - Gixxerboy555 - Thanks for the comments, With my computer my average speed is usually around 15.5 - 16.5 mph I live where it has a lot of hills which cuts my average down, on the flats I usually move around 20-22 mph but my top speed is 39 mph going down hill, it is very similar to my road bike just a couple lbs heavier... Mike

I don't like the colour...mine was better...Trek FX 7.4 black/blue... :)

Thanks for the video Mike, looks like a great bike. I've been looking to get the same bike (and color, love the orange!). It's hard to find some in-depth reviews (comparisons, etc) apart from what I've already read on the Trek website.

Very nice. I decided on going with the Trek Allant 7.2 after looking at several FX models mostly because the extras like the Bluetooth, etc.. were nothing I needed for the extra money, while still getting the same design. Trek has scored well with its Allant and FX series of bikes!

Did you have to buy the sensor separately or did it come with the bike?

Nice bike! I bought a 2015 Trek 7.4 FX Disc bike (gray) earlier this year and use it for commuting to work (24 mi. / day). I have just over 500 mi. on it so far. Absolutely love this bike! I also have a 2001 Trek 1000 that I was going to use for commuting but the 7.4 is so much more comfortable with the upright handlebars and geometry. I ride the 1000 when I'm not commuting and carrying a lot of extra gear. You mentioned you might downsize the tires. One of the reasons I bought the FX was for the larger tires since I carry panniers and trunk bag on my rear rack on the commute. There is a section where we ride through gravel and the 7.4's larger tires navigate that better than the 1000's narrower 700x25. Plus I feel more confident with the larger tires. They roll well and I have no trouble keeping up with my riding partner who has a lightweight Specialized Carbon hybrid. His bike has 700x30 tires. But tire size is a matter of preference and riding style. Safe riding!

Thank you for the video, Mike. After reading many reviews, I am picking one of these up later this week. It will be my first bike since my BMX days as a teen. I'd originally settled on the Paramount Gray color listed on Trek's website, until I visited the local dealer and realized that it was no longer available. I wasn't originally sold on an orange bike. But after watching your video and seeing the color in person, I really ended up liking the Firebrand color. Any new developments with the bike? I'm looking forward to taking it out this weekend.

2015 7.4 and 2016 7.4 are same. Only the color changed.

Really nice looking bike!
I'd like to know what did you use to record your video?
Traditional camcorder? Point-n-shoot? Smartphone?
Video's really clear!
I wish you many happy rides!
I'll post when I get my bike as well.
