I have one hardtail and one FS . . . Use the hardtail for canal paths and road riding, and the FS for flying to the moon.

Could someone help me decide... I have a hard tail break its fast and easy to paddle but the prob is, its to bouncy and I normal make jumps etc and the the impact goes on my hand even tho the front suspension is there... I'm getting a new bike in 2 weeks but I'm still confused should I get a more better hardtail bike or buy full suspension?

Video helped me choosing a hardtail bike after not beeing sure about a week.
Great!! -
I have an older bike an 04 Specialized enduro, i use on road, it does not have the lock out capability that newer mtb have however i stiffen up the rear shock a little bit and ustilize the full travel of the front suspension and its perfect! I live in NY and trust me when i tell you its perfect for these pot holes and cracks and dips found all over NY:-) not only that but you throw on the nobbies and hit the trails. Rigids are fine but i think dual suspension is more versatile. But to each his own.

Why do many people (especially beginners) think that hardtails are bad? There were many times on trails yet when I was riding much faster on my hardtail than some guys on duel suspension bikes only because they can´t ride. If you don´t get a feed back from your bike how it reacts to different terrains or styles of riding just because the rear suspension absorbs every tiny root you won´t learn to become a fast and good rider. If you want to do fast and hard downhill a full suspension bike is necessery to keep the control but everywhere else I would never give off my hardtail!

hello I need help I live in a area with lots of steep hills and I like going trail riding as well and I ride on the roads a lot what would you recommend hardtail or full suspension
-
never get an advice from a fat guy

Hard tail = bone shaker. Once you have ridden a duel suspension, you wont want to go back to a hard tail.

I wouldn't recommend a hard tail for going for extensive periods on trails since your butt will be aching and your arms will be tired. Mountain bikes allow for any use while road bikes are used exclusively for road. If you're on the road and you suddenly need to take a trail or go off road then mountain bikes are preferred. Hybrids work as well but I don't like their looks and they aren't meant for long rocky slippery trails. They have poor traction and thinner wheels than MTB.

COOL Dude! Thanks a lot.

False, the only reason you need full suspension is if you are doing serious downhill or freeride. If you want one that's fine but it's the front suspension fork that helps you get over obstacles on the trail. 90% of trails can be accomplished easily with a good hard tail, heck they even make hard tail free ride bikes. Rear suspension simply gives you a little more control and comfort. If you are mostly on the roads then why get a mountain bike?

You can find pretty good quality USED FS bikes for around a grand. Just depends your style of riding like DH or XC.
-
Full Suspension for fatty riders :-)

I've ridden an hard tale for about 15 years and recently bought my first full suspension downhill bike, I would never go back to an hard tale! Especially as the rear shock locks off to an hard tale best of both worlds.

Hardtail are for real men
-
i purchased a used one last year for 400$ and it is a great bike especially since i payed so little for it.
-
Yes. Well.. Sometimes. It all depends on how good of a bike you want. I go in to the local bike shop here all the time. Right now I'm trying to decide between the Giant Revel 29er (hard tail) and the the Giant Yukon FX 2 (full suspension). The Revel is $699, but the Yukon is a little pricier. It's regular $1050 but it's marked down to $875 because they're trying to clear out the 2012 models.

You can gen an entry level dual suspension for around 300USD but the good bikes are around that yeah.
-
Yeah

I wouldn't bother with a FS around $1,000...get a good hardtail instead
