Commuter bicycle takes to the street

This is my commuter bike that gets me to work every day. My commute is about 15 miles each way, so it's very important to have a reliable bicycle. This bike is a Fuji Touring that I built from frameset up. It has a very strong cromoly frame, and super-durable Velocity Dyad wheels. The frame on this bike is a Fuji Touring, and was pretty scratched up when I got it since the last owner had used it for cyclocross racing. My build has more of a touring / commuting / utility bike character. Despite the surface scratches, it is a solid, heavy-duty frame made of cromoly 4130 steel. This Fuji is a true touring bike and it excels at hauling weight. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it across the U.S (or anywhere else for that matter). Since the original finish of the bike had been damaged before I bought it, I didn't mind adding some red spray paint to 'uglify' it to make theft less likely (I lock this bicycle to bike racks all over Chicago...). Check out my video walkthrough of this bike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttD9ItdL9To Ultimate commuter bike Recorded with GoPro Hero 2 camera. I was using a special clamp for the GoPro, which allowed me to attach the camera to weird places around the bike. These are some of the components: Fuji Touring, Elios 2 Cromoly frame Dura Ace bar end shifters Velocity Dyad rims DT Swiss Competition spokes 2.0/1.8 Shimano Deore XT hubs Schwalbe Marathon tires Brooks Champion Flyer saddle Tubus Logo rear rack Generic aluminum front racks Update: I recently bought and installed Velo Orange safety skewers to add some extra security to the wheels. It makes it a little more comforting to bike to work knowing that my wheels won't get stolen if I forget to bring my cable lock. I'll make another video about the Velo Orange skewers. Please check out my other commuter bike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLteO8Nu8Gk It's a Jamis Aurora. Also: Please watch my take on folding bikes (a category of bikes I just recently became interested in): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCa-1Vj-_KA Adaptable commuter bike If I lived somewhere else, I would call this bike differently: bicicleta para ir al trabajo, vélo pour les déplacements, Fahrrad für Pendler, bicicleta para ir trabalhar, bicicletta per gli spostamenti,

I typically ride at about 15-16 mph (24-25 km/h) when loaded w/ light to medium cargo, unless there is a lot of head wind or uphill riding... In that case I barely do 13-14mph. It also depends how I feel: sometimes I can easily do 19 - 20mph for long stretches, while at other times I barely drag along at 14mph. When building up your own ride, there is also the fun, learning & satisfaction factor to account for. You'll never trust any bike like the one you personally build up - a great feeling...

I'm 15, and you're a nerd with a runescape video on your account. You play runescape at 15 and you made an account with runescape in the name. Get a life xD telling me to go outside xD

your name is the Runescapebot.. just shut up you damn nerd.

Ok, thanks for sharing. Now beat it and spam elsewhere.

rofl you spent $1500 on a carbon road bike and want to start boasting? this better be a joke...
-
... exactly my point. Some corporate executive in Taiwan is now rubbing his hands and laughing maniacally at the thought that a 13 year old's parents were dumb enough to buy the kid the plastic garbage bike for $1500.

Hi troll, didn't recognize you. Well, what you think a "real" road bike looks like is a result of marketing hype by unscrupulous bike companies trying to make a quick buck out of 'pigeon' cyclists and Lance wannabes. I'll race your aluminium / plastic bike any day on this machine. When you ride 150-200 miles per week like I do, you don't want to ride toys. I built the wheels on this bike to be ultra-strong and rode them from Chicago to Detroit fully loaded.. still perfectly true 2 years later.

Well... this was filmed in the burbs... Chicago, where I bike daily, does not have nearly as nice roads or wide spaces. Our roads are generally pretty beat up (one of the reasons I prefer bikes with robust wheels and bigger tires). Happy cycling!
